Earlier this week, Chicago's
Booth School of Business announced the launch of the
Civic Scholars Program, a new annual scholarship program that will award full-tuition scholarships to eight Weekend MBA students in nonprofit and government sectors.
The new program will be funded in part by a $4-million gift from the Neubauer Family Foundation. The awardees will be known as Neubauer Civic Scholars, and will continue to work full-time in these traditionally underrepresented MBA fields as they pursue their studies in the weekend program.
Neubauer Civic Scholar candidates will have approximately 6-10 years of professional experience when applying to the program. They will take the same courses as the rest of the Booth student body, as well as new, experience-based courses that involve research and consulting for social sector and government organizations. There will also be projects at the scholar's own organization, new extracurricular activities, and partnerships with other on-campus research centers and faculty members.
According to the
press release, "The program will bring important voices to the classroom and community by providing broader perspectives on issues such as understanding the role of business in society, the implications of expanding public-private partnerships, and the opportunities for business leaders to engage productively with government and nonprofit organizations."
