I took the GMAT earlier today and was utterly dissapointed. A 640?? thats dismal, to add insult to injury (and the cause of the injury being the same!) a 27 in the verbal section.

I reckoned my english comprehension and writing abilities to be well above ... well... 27. Posthumously, I question my abilities. Any suggestions as to how I can imporve these scores would be greatly appreciated.

The quantitative section was fairly straight forward. The occasional curve ball (or googly) was dismissable by re-reading the question and re-revising the answer. Though my 640 doesn't warrant giving unsolicited advice, I strongly advice re-reading and re-revising all the questions and answers if possible.

I plan on taking the GMAT again in the near future. If anyone has valuable advice on how to score higher, I am pre-emptively grateful. Other advice is fine too!

Hmmm, sorry about your dissappointment but i must say that 640 means that you're truly on the right track.

I don't know how long you prepared this time around but i suggest that just get as many questions on Verbal as possible and just practice, practice and practice.

That 700+ is reachable!

Thanks Kwasi!

I did put in some effort = about 3 weeks of only GMAT. Maybe I should up that to another month or so, hopefully that will be sufficient.

If anyone knows where I can get reliable practice tests please let me know.

I have only used Kaplans books, any suggestions of other reading material would be much appreciated.

Well chets, I think you should grab a copy of OG (Official Guide).

I also suggest you read GMAT experience of members on this forum, many of them have given the strategy they followed & study material they used. Really valuable.

&........don't give up :)

I will buy a copy of OG, it does seem to be quoted as the Bible in this forum.

I just read that 11th edition of OG is just out but is available only on https://www.mba.com. you can buy this instead of buying 10th edition.

Some members have posted reviews on this forum too, check this link...
