Can somebody tell me what is the difference between less and lesser? Is there any specific reason/rule to choose one over the other?

Thanks

my thought's on this :

in simplest terms,
less is used for uncountable quantities......less money, less milk

lesser is used when comparing "two" things.........lesser of the two, the lesser known, the lesser number is.......etc

of course there are specific cases(idioms).........like......"none the less"
you can't use lesser here.

if you have any specific case which bugs you, post it and we'll try to figure it out.
