Let beta income in 2000 = b

beta income in 2004 => 0.87 b = 1.74 Billion

=> b = 2 Billion

Alpha income in 2004 = 5.8 Billion

Ratio of income of beta in 2000 to income of alpha in 2004 = 2 B / 5.8 B => 2/5.8

Option D

Let income of Beta Corp in 2000 be x
Then according to the given data:

\(87/100*x\) = \(1.74\) Billion

Thus, \(x = 174/87 = 2\) Billion

The required fraction = income of Beta Corporation in 2000/Alpha Corporation’s income in 2004 = \(2/5.8\)

Hence D should be the OA

percentage change= change in value/original value.

Let the original value be X

87/100 = 1.74/x ==> x=100*1.74/87 ==> 174/87 ==> 2

Beta corporation income in 2000/alpha corporation in 2004 ==> 2/5.8

No need of any approximation and the question doesn't ask for approximate value either.

Hence the final answer is option D

800score Official Solution:

As shown in the chart, Beta Corporation's 2004 income is $1.74 billion. The chart shows that this is a 13% decrease from Beta’s income in 2000.
To solve for Beta Corporation's income in 2000, set the 2000 value as n, and set up the following equation:
(100% – 13%)n = $1.74 billion
.87n = $1.74 billion.
Divide both sides by 0.87 to get n = $2 billion.

The question asks what percent of Alpha Corporation's 2004 income was Beta Corporation's 2000 income, namely: 2/5.8. Algebraically, this is 2 = x(5.8). x = 2/5.8. The correct answer is choice (D).
