Hello to all,
This is the first time I post here although I read a lot of threads and it was very helpfull!I really need some advice on how to train some very specific skills that I really dont know how to improve so I can ace the GMAT. Let me first give you some background on myself and why I need the GMAT.
I am apparently one of the many struggling with preparation for the GMAT aiming at a 700+ score. Currently, I am working full time for a big FMCG company but I decided I need to take the GMAT and get to b-school so I can boost my prospects for higher level positions and further development. Basically this is where my motivation lies.
Anyway, I started studying for the gmat about a month ago with a course at a prep center before that (I didnt even touch gmat at home, I only attended the courses, bad decision....). I took the gmat after studying all the concepts and getting prepared by doing tests and practicing the types of questions. However, I never did a real CAT while I only timed answering the questions. On average, I was taking 2 minutes to answer a question but had more struggle with the 700+ ones.
My gmat score on the test was incredibly low (450) with some higher score on quant and very low score on verbal. However, this score was mainly due to not having time to finish and lack of focus. On the quant section I was left with 7 questions that I had to answer by guessing due to time constraint and 1 that I couldnt even answer for which I was penalized. On the verbal section I couldnt even read the questions because I was extremely focused on the time and I was afraid it wont be enough for all of them. The whole exam went like if I was reading but not understanding what I read (my mind was focused on things other than the questions and answers). I am not a native english speaker but I lived in the UK and did my university degree in English so the language should not be a problem.
That said, my need of advice from you guys is mainly in how exactly could I train time management and concentration for the exam? At home I easily go for 90% correct answers on Verbal and around 80% correct on math but when I sat the test it was a whoooole different story.
I will appreciate any kind of advice and critiques and I will be happy to further provide more detailed information about my way of studying.
Thank you in advance guys. I count on you to help me conquer this exam!
