let c/d = x (just to simplify in the next step). Given 0 < 1 - x < 1 ---> it implies that x is less than 1 and less than 0. There is no other scenario possible. If x > 1, then (1-x)<0. Therefore, 0 < x < 1. which, is 0 < c/d < 1, which implies c/d is a fraction where c < d.
