Been managing and leading the local chapter which consists of about 25 volunteers. In the last 2 years I have completely turned this chapter around from making $8000 a year to $30000 a year especially during the recessionary year of 2008/2009. I have masterminded and architected several fund raisers that raise more than $10000 annually to support our cause. The money raised supports several projects working towards under-privileged kids in India
Project lead for a project in India which sets up schools at construction sites to provide non formal education to construction worker kids and ease them into the mainstream schooling system. Served a 2 week stint in Kenya to provide school kids with Classmate PC’s through Intel’s Classmate PC program and also am a active part of this program. Act as a youth mentor to 4 middle school kids every year trying to make them understand the importance of an education in today’s world.Through my employer volunteer grant matching program, I raise about $3000 every year for the above organizations through my individual efforts
POST MBA-Plans:
Technology In Emerging markets - A new area cropping up in most Tech Giants (Apple, Microsoft etc)that combines the business side of technology with Social Causes. Would greatly help me stay in the technology sector while doing something meaningful to help out my NGO. We are at a great tipping point at the NGO that a significant leadership push in the right direction would pave way for an amazing impact.
I am planning to apply only after 2 years due to personal reasons.
1. What are my chances of getting into a top 8 school. Do i even stand a realistic chance or would I just be wasting my time. All admission consultants felt that the top 8 schools would be a stretch and mapped me to the next 16 due to a. MY AGE b. MY DEMOGRAPHIC.
2. I am still struggling over the decision of whether to retake my GMAT or not to improve my chances. Any ideas here...
3. Most of the consultants think that HAAS would be a good fit for me. Would my profile be competitive at HAAS. It would be great if any HAAS alum could weigh in here
So what do you guys think. Any honest opinion would be appreciated.
Thanks
