I would like your opinion on my chances of admission to an EMBA program at an Ultra Elite School. I am starting the admissions process at Chicago GSB, and Penn's Wharton.
Statistics:
- African American male, 30 years old
- BS of Computer Science from UVA, Minor in Economics
GPA average 2.97, Major average 3.4 - My overall average is low because I was working while in school, and had a very bad first year experience. I was on the Dean's list honor roll for my last 2 years.
- 9 years of Total Work experience
-- 2 years of consulting experience
-- 5 years of start-up experience
-- 7 years of Software Development experience
-- 2 years of Management experience
-- 1 year of Product Management experience
- 680 GMAT
-- 49 Quant (90%)
-- 32 Verbal (66% - This concerns me – I think endurance got me)
-- 6.0 AWA
My concerns are my low overall GPA and my GMAT verbal score. However, I do feel my AWA score helps offset such a low verbal. I rescheduled to take my GMAT on December 1st, when I am in Singapore on business. I thought a change of environment might be helpful. Do you think a retake could hurt me? I just do not feel comfortable with my verbal score, knowing on practice examinations I have consistently performed better.
