You already accomplished the difficult part at MIT: getting the interview. You are practically IN. Just know your essays inside and out and have experiences for the standard questions outside of what you wrote in your app. You should be fine. Good luck!

Thought I'd do a quick write up of my interview. I am still in shock that I was the only gmatclub interview this round. Very odd, and I am feeling the pressure to save us from a shutout.

An extremely friendly and jocular Adcom met me in the hotel lobby. First thing he said (after joking about bringing bad weather to LA) is that he thinks traditional interviews are boring (he said he ends up daydreaming about the beach), so he was just going to have a casual conversation and get a feel for me as a person. Now while lots of interviewers say that, he actually meant it. The interview ended up running well over an hour with only a couple of set questions (the rest were probing follow-ups), lots of laughing, and a surprising amount of selling of MIT from him. It was clear that he was very interested in me as a person and had zero interest in canned stories. He also drilled down for lots of specifics with each question (as previous interviewees had mentioned he would). There was no "Why MIT?" or "Why MBA?" so I had to try to fit it in throughout.

While we definitely connected, it was also clear he had some reservations about my candidacy that he came in looking to address. Specifically, the fact that I am an older candidate who has stayed at one company (gotten two degrees from the same local university) and have been limited by the lack of advancement opportunities inherent in IT. As he said, "it appears I have stayed in a bubble". I did the best to explain the thought process behind my career choices but also mentioned that in hindsight I probably should have moved on earlier. Who knows if it adequately addressed his concerns (or made them worse!)

Here are the questions:

1) Why did you choose your current job? What are your current responsibilities? etc. (drilled down for 30 minutes pushing for very specific answers)
2) What do you do outside of work?
3) What is one thing you wish I had asked you?
4) What is one thing you are glad I didn't ask? (tough question!)
5) Do you have any questions for me? (he showed lots of passion for MIT and this line of questioning went on for 30 minutes).

I honestly have no idea if I will get in (though I definitely connected with the interviewer and thought he was a great guy). However, I am done making predictions, I am currently in at my worst interview (Ross), dinged at my best (Haas), and waitlisted at my second best (Kellogg). It all feels like a crapshoot to me at this point.

All the best livehard (and every other R2 applicant). The final decision is only a week away, right?

Who knows... maybe, even worse - waitlists... but knowing that kwam rejected MIT for Chico I will feel easy with their decision. I am in Chico as well.

Btw, MIT application was the most straightforward among my schools (Stan, Wharton and Chico). But their additional essay section was somewhat weird.

Join the LFM and BEP admits! I've been waiting for round 2 decision day so I can do the official acceptance paperwork. Good luck for those that don't know the deal yet, looking forward to meeting everyone during the AdMIT weekend in May.

Do LFM admits get an overall program admit or do they find out about both Sloan as well as the engineering department at separate times? It'd be a HUGE help if you could shed some light on when you actually find out, etc. :) Thanks!

LFM candidates are on their own timeline, and they find out their dual admit simultaneously. If you don't get a dual admit, I believe you are rolled into round 2 regular MBA admissions cycle. For example the timeline this year it went somewhat like this:
Applications due Dec 17, 2007
Interviews mid Jan - Mar 10, 2008
Decision Mar 10, 2008 - at that time all official paperwork is sent.
AdMIT weekend beginning of April

BEP candidates follow a similar path.
Applications due Dec 17, 2007
Interviews (MBA) Feb 13 - 14, 2007
Interviews (BEP Panel) Feb 14, 2007
Decision Feb 29, 2007 candidates notified
April 7, 2007 round 2 deadline is when official Sloan paperwork is sent.
If you are denied on Feb 29, 2007, you are still considered in round two. AdMIT weekend is with the rest of round 2.

All I am doing today is costing my company money in electricity. Feels likely Christmas morning when I was 8.

I know what you mean. It is easy to obsess when you have a big chunk of your future riding on a decision. I didn't know exactly when the decision would be communicated other than by the round 2 deadline. On February 29th, I was flying out to Colorado for a ski trip. While landing in Atlanta to catch my connect to Denver, I powered up my cell phone when the wheels hit the deck. Lo and behold there was an email from the admissions committee. I read through the opening sentence catching the words "delighted to inform" and "voted to offer you admission". I pumped my arm at the overhead exclaiming, "YES!" much to bewilderment of my seat mate. Needless to say my ski trip had now truly become a vacation.

Damn, looks like the decisions will be coming late. It's like Christmas morning except since your father got laid off the gifts are on lay-away.

I'm in :) Finally have all my admissions decisions! Now it is my decision time

Does anyone know if MIT notifies of scholarships at time of admission or do you need to submit a separate app?
