I voted Michigan because that's where I went for undergrad and I love Ann Arbor. I grew up loving Michigan sports so if you like sports I'd definitely recommend it.

If the economy holds up, go with the money, you'll get the same job opportunities. If it starts to go south, I think Chicago brand may carry the day at the margins.

I'd go GSB.... The $40,000 you save is pittance in comparison to the value of the Chicago name for the rest of your life. I dont know if you intentionally chose Ross to prove a point - as it doesn't get the attention it deserves, despite it's rank. Until that changes, I'd say GSB.

I second that. It should be GSB. The name will carry you in good stead if you are looking at something like PE after a few years in Consulting.

I would go UMich if you plan on living and working in the East. I'm sure it's a different story in the midwest and west coast, but out here UMich has a ton of buzz (probably more than Chicago in most circles).

No offense to Chicago people, its a great school!

I work in a consulting firm on the E-Coast and in my experience people's view of different schools generally aligns with the cluster system used on this Board. I'd say Kellogg has marginally more pull than GSB, but GSB is certainly up there with the big names. We would view Ross as on the same level as Duke and Darden. Great schools by any standard, but a notch below the M7.

I would agree with that for recruiting. But wouldn't you agree that UMich (and Duke for that matter) resonate a great deal with decision makers? I know number senior people who gush over UMich.

Good call on Kellogg, I know people out here that worship the school.

Great responses, this is much closer than I had expected!. Polls are supposed to be decisive!

I hadn't really thought of geography, considering they are both in the Midwest. Is it possible Michigan could do better in Chicago than GSB (dime a dozen)?

Also, I wonder how this poll would change if it were for Finance positions, GSB hands down?

I dont think michigan would outdo GSB. GSB is not a dime a dozen.

I would also consider the role within consulting that you want to take on. Because Chicago is so known for quant, a lot of the consulting firms hire there for people to build models.

Michigan has an excellent reputation among recruiters (WSJ ranking) mainly because the students are people you could sit next to the CEO on the plane ride and not have to worry about carrying a conversation...
