Clubs & Leadership Positions [#permalink] New post 24 Sep 2007, 00:55
Hi, all. I'm wondering what sort of clubs you're signing up for and whether you're getting leadership positions. It seems that you can have three levels of involvement: consumer (you are on the mailing list and show up at events), active member (no official leadership role, but you contribute to the running of the club in some way), and leader (some sort of official role, either elected or appointed).

I find that some clubs don't have much room for active members - you either own it or consume it.

Anyway, here's me:

Association for Women in Business: Cabinet - Weekend for Women Planning Committee

Admissions Ambassador

General Management Club: consumer

Finance Club: disgruntled consumer (it's not them, i'm just realizing that finance in b-school is very specific to areas of finance i don't care about)

Social Impact Club: hopefully an active member, but it's early

And some other fun stuff where I'm on the mailing list but don't know if I will make time for it: culinary, wine, outdoor, no regrets.

You're significantly more involved than me. I've joined one so far and plan to be very selective about the rest due to time commitments and membership dues.

I'm definitely going to try and be very involved in the professional group though, because organizing conferences, recruiting, etc. is a great way to meet alumni and make contacts.

I've joined 3 regional ones, 3 industry ones, a sports club and a couple of recreational clubs. I'll probably be consumer in all but 2, as I won't have much available time. I'm already working on a conference for one of the regional ones.

Regional? North Argentina, South Argentina and "somewhere in Africa with a motorcycle"?

Our sign up deadline is next week, along with the MBAA dues.

I'm test driving several and seriously considering partaking in 2.5:

Global Business Association, Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, and Real Estate. BizComm looks cool for an occasional sit in.
