1. Not Sufficient

2. Not Sufficient

Together

IF x<z
and z^2 < y

Then x<y for z=2 (for eg.) but not true for z=1/2

Thus E

from i, we only know that y is +ve.
from ii, if z = 0.9, y = 0.85 and x = 0.89, not suff...
if z >1, yes.

from both, not suff...so E.

Re: Data Sufficiency Question [#permalink]
St1:
Insufficient. We have no information about x.

St2:
Insufficient. We have no information about y.

Using St1 and St2

X^2 < z^2
x^2 < Y

If x = 0.9, y = 0.8, then x^2 < y and x > y. If x = 1 and y = 2, then x^2 < y and x < y. Insufficient.

Re: Data Sufficiency Question [#permalink]
grrrr I fell into the trap, must consider fractions ie. let z=1/2 then z^2=1/4.

I think i need to make a list of things to consider when doing inequalities:
Signs, Fractional Values, Absolute Values, Square (hides the sign). What else?
