Difference in CAT scores

Hi, I really nneed some help from the Forum.
I joined Veritas course and have completed the course and given 2 CAT exam from Veritas with scores as :

1. Score %le Correct
Quant 48 (of 60) 78% 59%
Verbal 35 (of 60) 74% 68%
Total 680 85 64%
Didnt give Essay and IR

2. Full exam

essay no score
IR 4/8
Quant 48/60
Verbal 34/60
Total 670

I have always felt that I am good at Verbal but Quant is not strong. But both the times, verbal betrayed me.

And then today I gave the Gmat Prep exam and it came as a shocker.
Total : 590 on the exam.
Quant score : 45 Verbal Score: 27

Didn't expect this score at all.
Also, Verbal and Quant seemed to be tough as compared to Veritas exams. specially Verbal, Reading Comprehension seemed to be in an alien language but in English.

I am really disappointed. Someone please help me in understanding such a big difference in my scores and in getting back my confidence.

Hey Nishant,

You know...I think it's good advice to recognize that you're probably never as good as your best practice test and never as bad as your worst. Your "true ability" probably lies somewhere in between, and the only score that really matters is the one on test day. So with that in mind, the best use of a practice test is to give yourself a good look at how you perform in an exam setting, specifically:

-How are you managing your pacing/time?
-What mistakes are you making under pressure?
-Which concepts and question types don't seem as easy in the exam as they do when you're focusing on them in practice?
-How does your mental stamina/energy hold up in a full-length exam?

Practice tests are fantastic for telling you where you can improve, so I'd emphasize some of the qualitative analysis in addition to feeling the general trend of where you're scoring. These articles may help:

Taking GMATPrep for the first time is always a difficult experience. There are several factors that can throw off one's pacing and cause students to make mistakes that they would normally not make. I always caution my students to not put too much emphasis on it, at least not on the first attempt. Instead take this as an opportunity to size the beast that you have to deal with. I am saying this based on my experience with a range of students who take the GMATPrep tests for the first time.

As far as getting an accurate gauge of your current standing, I have found GMATPrep practice tests along with Exam Pack 1 tests to be the most reliable, and I would also recommend you to space them out to assess your readiness.
