MBA candidates very rarely discuss financial career opportunities outside of investment banking. Evrywhere, on every forum people are implying that finance = IB. That and of course PE/VC and hedge funds - i.e., firms that hire ex-IB people. This is what I find depressing, not the article.
I have some financial background and every time I enquire with current students about career prospects, they reply "oh, i-banking is terrible this year, very few offers, omygodimgonnadie" OK, I got that, what about other financial jobs, are there recruiters coming to campus, are you able to find potenial employers on your own? Radio silence. They have no idea that other financial jobs exist. Sad.
