Official Explanation

The last phrase of the passage refers to “its diet,” so the underlined passage should refer to “the marine iguana” in the singular. Answer E is incorrect because it uses the plural phrase “they search,” and B is stylistically inferior to C because the phrase “the marine iguana, being the only species of iguana” is awkward. C is the best choice.
