I had posted a thread a few weeks ago after taking the GMAT, and was pretty depressed. I did not give up though, I rescheduled for December 27 and gathered more resources. The first of which is the Manhattan advanced quant guide. I have to say that several of the strategies make sense; primarily the idea that the GMAT doesn't know if you're plugging numbers in, backsolving from answer choices, or even making educated guesses. I got pig-headed the first time I took the test; I tried to solve everything, which was time consuming. One problem I took 8 minutes on. Plus I took too long on my break and just guessed on the first 3 questions without reading them (how much does that hurt your score? I'm assuming massively).
So for the last few weeks I'm filling out MBA program applications each day, as well as studying the advanced guide, and reviewing the basic Manhattan guides as well. This of course is in addition to solving the problems posted here. My main focus is on quant; I only got a 41 on verbal when I took the test the first time, but I had the hardest run of questions I saw. In every single practice exam (not joking) I got a 44 on verbal. Every time. My quant score on test day was what dragged me down, I got a 39. So I'm going to post here a couple times per week about my progress and what I'm studying, and then hopefully if I do better on quant the 2nd time others will have a guide to lead them to a better score.
