GMAT/SAT Score Correlation [#permalink]

Hey guys,
I know that the GMAT and SAT are very diff tests, but how well do the scores correlate between the two (and how strong is the relationship bet. the two tests)? I would imagine that it might not be very strongly correlated since the GMAT is computer adaptive, and the SAT is not -- but both exams test quant & verbal and both are after all, standardized tests.
I got a 1550 on the SAT (and 780 on writing) - what kind of score am I looking at on the GMAT? AKA, can those of you who have taken both the SAT and GMAT post your scores?

i think there is probably a good correlation if you put the same amount of effort into both tests. test-taking skills/mentality cannot be overlooked. but i know people who didnt do that well on the sat, but did great on the gmat because they were more focused in that stage of life.
fyi, i got a 1570 sat and 780 gmat.

there's some correlation, but it depends on a lot of things.
I got 1490 on the old SAT scale, aka 1590 now.
I'm getting only around 700 on my practice GMATs, I'm shooting for 730, I would be ecstatic with that...A 750 would have me in disbelief.

I think it all depends. If you study an equal amount for both, then there might be a correlation. However, I know many people weren't as serious about their future as they are now. I know a few 1200s who have scored over 700 on the GMATs.

For me, the tests show different results, which really has to do with the amount of preparation and importance I placed on each test. I took the SAT as a sophomore in high school, and didn't study even one second because I didn't even think about how important it could be. I scored a 1360. But, I put together approximately 2 months of consistent study time for the GMAT and scored 760. My thoughts are, if you scored well on the SAT, you have the ABILITY to score high on the GMAT. No guarantees, but it should be a pretty decent indicator of what you can do.

SAT 1170 GMAT 620
I'd say it's a fairly strong correlation.
I wonder how strongly standardized test scores and success in business correlate?

I had a 1170 SAT and 710 GMAT. The main difference was that I prepared for the GMAT.

I don't see a big correlation. I got a 1320 on the SAT and 770 on the GMAT. My friend just took the GMAT and got a 720, when he got a 1540 on the SAT. Those are just two examples, but I don't really think there's much of a correlation. Well, maybe there is, but I'll at least say if you did bad/well on the SAT, that doesn't mean you will guaranteed do bad/well on the GMAT.

I'd think that there has got to be at least some level of correlation between the two tests based on one's experience and comfort with standardized testing. Having said that, nothing beats proper preparation.
