Hi everyone out there...
My name is Ranjith. I gave my 1st GMAT yesterday and got a 540 slap. I am very disappointed with my performance and score. My split up was Q41 and V23.
I have been preparing for close to 3 months and working real hard. I did an analysis and found few things I must share before anyone could give some effective advice.
-I over prepared I guess. I was too tensed and panicked during the exam.
-My Quants was going as planned and I was doing well. But towards the end it came to 5 questions to go and 1 minute on the clock. I randomly clicked and answered all. From there it was all going down.
-I need to improve a lot on my Verbal.
-I used OG10, OG11 and OG12 only for my preparation. I solved them twice. The problem is I think now I know the answers without looking into the options. That’s why I was getting all of them right in CR and SC while doing them before the exam.
-Initially I wanted to get a 700 and that really increased the pressure on me. So now I have no specific score in mind. All I want to do is give my best.
-I really want to take up my second attempt ASAP.
Kindly let me know what to do…

Hey Ranjith - sorry you had a bad GMAT experience. I know how you feel - my first test back in March I got 500 (Q 27, V 34) and I couldn't believe it, but I pulled it together and studied again for about two months, and finally got the decent score I wanted/needed today. (Q 44 V 40 690)
Looks like you're pretty set with Quant...For verbal, I'd recommend
MGMAT verbal books - especially their Sentence Correction book. I found them extremely helpful and it covers all important topics.
Don't worry about doing
OG questions multiple times - it'd be a waste of time since you would've already memorized answers. I would suggest you to study bare fundamentals to understand why and how to get the right answers - I learned this a hard way. Alternatively, you might want to consider taking a GMAT course - I'd suggest Knewton, but
MGMAT looked pretty solid too.
Try to relax at least 5 days before the test - no GMAT, no pressure, no nothing. Believe it or not, this will really help you clear up your brain and by the time you take the test you'll think a lot clearer. (Again from my experience)
My goal was 700 just like you, and I've got 690 which I am satisfied with, but it took me a while to get this score. Don't get discouraged! If I can do it, so can you.
Hope this helps and PM me if you have any questions. Good luck!!!
