By being interviewed, you can probably assume that your background is a fit for the school (GMAT, GPA, experience). You didn't mention any issue with the interviews, so let's assume they went fine (that is, you clearly conveyed 'why b-school', 'why now', 'why THIS b-school' and you came off as a good person). Waitlisting can then indicate many things, like 1) one or more aspects of your application are significantly lower than the admitted applicant, 2) your overall application is on the lower-end of the admit pool so they want more time to see who else applies, 3) the interviewer gave a so-so review (typical of alumni). Show the school that you want to pursue that you really want them and give specific reasons why. Admissions people appreciate genuine interest, passion, and follow-up, but don't like being annoyed. Perhaps ask to speak with a professor in a subject that you're interested in, or ask for more information in a program/club/course that you mention in your application.
