Well, it depends on where you are applying to and what type of score that they look for. However, if you think you can improve 600-650 from 520 and the school is at all competitive, you must re-take the exam.

I'm not sure what the potential risk you reference of taking the exam is. Schools generally just look at the highest score no matter how many times you take it (there are a few exceptions).

Hi,

As far as I know, canceled score will not be reported to b-school. I mean, the adcom will no even know that you took the test which you canceled. So it will be your 3rd attempt. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Dilshod -- am not sure that's correct (I'm not absolutely sure either). I believe GMAC does report cancelled attempts to the schools. If they did not, then there would be no disincentive for people who take tests many times and keep cancelling if they're not comfortable.

Ab - You might want to read the GMAC instructions thoroughly.

From what I know, the schools do get to see that you sat for the exam but no scores were reported because you cancelled them. Correct me if I am wrong.

They will see "Cancelled" in place of the score.
