It's kind of funny. I just talked with a recent Ross grad who also had not so great experiences with his MAP project. He didn't think it was the best use of his time during the school year to be out accumulating even more work experience, something that the vast majority of the class alreay had plenty of. I thought it was interesting to hear his take because MAP is supposed to be the cornerstone of the Ross MBA and something that really distingishes the Ross experience from other comparable b-school programs. To hear a Ross alum not speak of MAP like it was handed to him by God made me do a double take.
From my point of view though, I'd be really inviting to something like MAP because it acts as a stepping stone from your MBA course load to your internship, and then eventually your post-MBA job. Plus, as a career changer (technical to general management), I need the MAP project and any other hands on projects to help establish my credibility.
In the end, despite his sub-par MAP experience, he said he had absolutely no regrets choosing to attend Ross over Kellogg.
