I was between B&E on the first one. Re: B, author mentions that railways had the most far reaching impact on industrial rev, compared to other modern innovation, but he does not give any specifics on how extensive that impact actually was... For E, he mentions contrariety and ambivalence as reasons by writers after the 1880s, these reasons are cited to underscore the authors point of view that the romantic era distrust continued well into the 80s. So I ruled out E as showing distrust is also a form of support, but the degree of it varies. But the answer here may very well be E.

This paragraph reminds me why I don't like history. :-D I think all historians that writes like this should be murdered. ;)

Anyways here's what I got from this paragraph.
Historians disagree about how public reacted to the railroad system. Stilgoe believed that in 1830s people were suspicious toward it, but this attitude had changed during 1880 to 1930 and people were more enthusiastic about it. The author of this article, however, disagrees. He blieves that the situation had been a contrast of an enthusiasm of the majority versas a distrust of a few intellectuals, and this situation had not changed much from 1830s to 1880s.

1.The passage provides information to answer all of the following questions EXCEPT:
(E) What arguments did the writers after the 1880s, as cited by Stilgoe, offer to justify their support for the railroad?

This is the relatively easy one.

2.According to the author of the passage, Stilgoe uses the phrase “romantic-era distrustâ€
