Dear Hjort:
Would you please give me some advise on my profile. I always love your candid thought, and really appreciate it.
Male, Vietnamese, 24 (I wonder if Vietnamese is considered minority?)
GMAT first 670, second 710 (50Q, 35V, 5 AWA), GPA appx 3.5 (top 3%), major computer science
18 moths work experience, if include the time I'm in the company to research the graduate thesis, it will be 24 months (should I include in, or just consider it an internship, since I was paid some money during that time)
Experience: developer, then team leader. Later on I was promoted to project manager, involved in technology consulting projects, emphasized on trade promotion in Vietnam. Have 2 internships during summers in junior and senior years.
Currently enroll MBA in small institution in CA,began on Oct.2005 because I wanted to come to US first to improve English and study for GMAT. Just took english and some fundamental business classes (Finance, accouting, Bus Law, micro.economic). Still work on project during the time in US.
Extracurriculum: pretty strong. President of Student Union, some volunteer organizations, spend 2 summers for social activities. Have a number of awards for volunteer activities.
Goal: Open a consulting firm in Vietnam after MBA, because it's a huge market and less competition.
School:
locations are not important, because I'm very easy to fit in any environment. I prefer schools with generous scholarships.
I dream of Stanford because of it well-round and international reputation, but I know it's very very difficult. Just ranks it "very very reach".
Reach: Yale, Cornell, Berkeley and UCLA (I will scale down. That is prefered order)
Have some chances: Washington at St.Loius., Vanderbilt, Davis ( also think of Indiana trio )
Back up schools: George washington
Would you please advise my on :which schools, (in your opinion, not neccessary in my list) that is good and I would have some decent chances? What should I polish in my application.
Thank you very much, Hjort
Best wishes to you and your family.
