Hello,
To overcome such a low GPA is difficult, even with your considerable strengths and distinctive profile. There are several steps you can take:
1. Create an “alternate transcript” – whether courses as an unmatriculated student, or through a formal program such as a master’s of some type, and earn A’s. This alternate transcript will demonstrate your ability to excel in academic settings. A master’s in management would be fine if you can find an appropriate program; many such programs are for career starters, and you would be too experienced to qualify (as strange as that may sound). Other master in management programs, such as Stanford’s, are highly competitive, and that would be a barrier because of the GPA. There may be MiM programs that would be reasonable targets for you; it will take some research on your part.
2. Take the GMAT and score very high.
3. When you do apply to b-schools, apply to as many as you can in order to maximize your chances of finding someone who responds to your distinctive candidacy and wants to admit you enough to overlook the GPA (assuming you have also earned A’s in other courses and have a strong GMAT).
4. Consider
Executive MBA programs. The GPA will still be an issue, but they tend to weigh the academics a little less, and the experience a little more. You are on the older side for MBA programs and would be an appropriate age for some EMBAs (though young for others).
