Informal recommendation from current student? [#permalink]
15 Oct 2011, 09:53
A friend of mine informed me that he was having a current student email a recommendation for him to the admissions office. Does the admissions committee take into consideration recommendations from current students?? Thanks.

Hm, this is a very interesting question... and one I'd like to hear the answer to also (not for myself). The way I envision this right now is kind of like a job recommendation... (this assume you're not an executive and just say "hire him")... it probably could help as someone on the "inside" vouches for their character... but ultimately there's other things that will come into play... credentials, etc.

I'm guessing that would help if you were waitlisted, but probably not so much before that. Some schools will not accept anything you send in "in addition" to your application because people will try to add in all kinds of random stuff.

This might be school specific. So Fuqua actually has a process, and apparently this is really good for your app if you get one. Not sure about any of the other schools.

Can't hurt but I wouldn't imagine it would have a huge impact. A lot of people don't know current students or if they do, they don't know someone at every school. A school wont punish you by not having one, but if it is a tie breaker on your acceptance or not, it may help.
