Hi Everyone,

I am doing pretty badly on the IR section and my exam is in a few days. How important and what's the weight of this IR Section. The mba.com says it's evaluated separately so the score I will get right after the exam will not include the IR and AWA section, but say I have 3/8, what's the impact on my final GMAT score if I get say 620 right after I finish the GMAT?

Hi sokenyou,

There's no impact. As you pointed out - IR score is a separate score. So your 620 will still be a 620. In some instances your unofficial score may be off from your official score by +-10 pts - but it will not be affected by your IR performance.

Thanks a lot for your detailed response. I am just worried that the IR section will kill my score. Also, when you said there might be +/- 10 pts when I receive my score in the mail. How can this happen by the way?

This may be due to rebalancing of scores as they take into consideration the real-time stream of test takers coming in everyday to match their scoring algorithms. Most of the time, there is no difference. But when there is - the difference we've seen has been no more than 10 pts.
