(1) B is not an odd integer.
(2) A+B is an odd integer.

Self Made

Question asked- Is A even Integer?

(1) B is not an odd integer.
B can be even integer or any fraction (Not sufficient) (It is not inferred that if B is not an odd integer, it must be even integer. It can be fraction too)

(2) A+B is an odd integer.
Even Integer + Odd Integer= Odd
Odd +Even = Odd
1/2+ 1/2= Odd Integer
(Not sufficient)

Combining both statements A can be even or any fraction. IMO E is the answer

OE:-

The Q tests on our ability to infer ONLY the relevant info.

B is not an odd integer DOES NOT mean it is an even integer. It JUST means - B is not an odd integer- and nothing else

(1) B is not an odd integer.
Had it been given that A and B are integers, it would have meant that B is Even..
but without that info, B can be EVEN, fraction and even irrational such as \(\sqrt{2}.......\sqrt{3}\)
Also NO relation between A and B
Insuff

(2) A+B is an odd integer.

A+B is an ODD integer means-
a) A=Even and B = Odd or
b) vice-versa....
c) combination of fractions

Insuff

Combined-
A+B is Odd .. Combined two ways still left
a) B is EVEN... A will be ODD.. YES
b) B is fraction....A will also be fraction.... B=1/3 and A= 8/3.....NO

Insuff

Hi chetan2u
I saw your explanation.
I still think the answer must be C
Here's why
Clearly Statement one and two are insufficient alone.
Combining them
B must be an even integer or a decimal
Now A+B=odd
Hence A= odd -B
=> A= odd-even (for B being Even integer) = Odd
or => A=odd- fraction = fraction.
Hence Although A can either be odd or fraction it CAN NEVER BE EVEN.
Hence C should be the Answer.

Am i missing something here?

Thanks

(1) B is not odd. That means that B could be an even integer, a fraction, a root... Not sufficient

(2) A+B is odd. That could be a=3 + b=4 = 7 odd or a=2.5 + b=4.5 = 7 odd. We don't have any info about a and b though.

Combined, the two statements do not give us any info either.
