Is there really a huge difference between universities for education?

Hello everybody, I am kind of new here at this forum and the GMAT.
I would like to tell about my background a little bit so I may hopefully get some accurate help.
My father is a succesful entrepeneur in several branches. It allways seemed like he trusted my skills enough to let me on on his projects but that what not what he said when I graduated.
So I needed a plan B immediately.
I told him that is completely fine I understand I will get a bachelors in Business from the local school which would also be completely free. In my country we even get paid to attend university.
The problem is that he strongly disagrees by saying that it is not a private school and the education would not be as good. I know for sure some extremely succesful people graduated there even our previous prime minister.
Well anyways his demands are that I will get into a highly prestigious school and my question is would it really matter to that degree? I have never been a top perfomer in school and I have been working really hard to get into this school which by the way requires no GMAT, but an exam which is adapted to all schools in my country. I find the GMAT kind of difficult even tho the exams are to some degrees similar. I usually score between 400-500 on the GMAT which is far too low for any school except for HULT with their outrageous marketing.
Besides grades I have highly desirable merits such as succes in gymnastics, minor entrepeneurship and I currently work as an insurance salesman 1 month after graduation. With a strongly above average salary, specially for my age.
So this sounds very stupid I know but will my merits be able to lower the amount of points I need on the GMAT, if so to what degree?
Thanks for understanding and lots of love.
