kaplan practice test

hi all!took a kaplan practice test today and got a horrible 560.made a lot of silly mistakes and exceeded the time limit too.
do kaplan tests offer scope for improvements?.any suggestiuons on how to focus and meet my target ? :cry: as it is way out of sight. :shock:
frankly i dont have the courage to take a computer adaptive version of the same cause i feel it would be a waste.how can i improve my scores?
i have gone through the mistakes but there continue to be a few CRs which make no sense at all.

First - 560 on Kaplan is not that bad at all. I don't think I ever got better than a 630 on Kaplan and got a 730 on the real thing. I would pay more attention to how many you're getting right/wrong on Kaplan rather than your score. Their scoring algorithm is attrocious - dunno if it's intentional or not. I also found Kaplan's verbal to be overly difficult - but their quant is very good.

560 on Kaplan is good.

I never went above 630 or 640.

So, was the test paper or computer?

it was a paper test,the one that is in the gmat kaplan 2004 book.
the problem is that when i get a question wrong and look at the solution i am forced to drill it in my head even if it makes no sense at all.i mean once one has a mental picture in the mind of how a particular problem should be tackled ,sometimes another solution specially in the verbal section is difficult to understand. :?

It is not good to "drill it in your head" and not understand a problem. The understanding of the problem gives you a new skill that you can apply to other problems (as well as life).

If you do not understand a Kaplan explanation, ask here. There are a lot of articulate people in this forum. That is what we are here for.
