If O and ∆ are digits. What is the value of ∆.OOO + O. ∆∆∆?

(1) ∆ + O = 10
(2) ∆ = O

Solution:
Pre Analysis:
  • Given O and ∆ are digits, we are asked the value of ∆.OOO + O. ∆∆∆

Statement 1: ∆ + O = 10
  • If ∆ + O = 10, then the following addition can take place:

  • Thus, statement 1 alone is sufficient and we can eliminate options B, C and E

Statement 2: ∆ = O
  • This information is not going to help us get the value of ∆.OOO + O. ∆∆∆
  • Thus, statement 2 alone is not sufficient

Hence the right answer is Option A
