I took the gmat prep test 2 sometime back and got 12 questions Incorrect. I scored a 38 that day on verbal.
Now yesterday took the gmat prep 4 exam and got 12 questions incorrect. But this time the score was down to 34. To mention, the incorrect 1's were evenly spread with the 9 question incorrect. Also the last question in the test 4 attempt was incorrect, which wasn't in test 2 attempt. Most of the questions in test 4 attempt were 700 level (as per gmatclub). So I can't understand what is being tested and how is scoring done.. Also is there any correlation with the Quant score. As in, is the verbal score adjusted upwards if you have a low Quant score and vice versa.. (exploring all sides which could get me answer to the scoring query.. ).... Would be grateful to the experts if they could offer some Insights.

Dear
nm855,
I'm happy to respond.
The GMAT Q & V sections are CATs. This means, the computer is adjusting, question by question, the difficulty of the questions. See:
https://magoosh.com/gmat/2012/what-is-th ... tive-test/The number you get right and wrong is absolutely irrelevant to your score. One person could get 12 wrong and get a 44 (98th percentile), and other person could get 12 wrong and get 21 (26th percentile). It all depends on the difficulty of what you are getting right and wrong. The score is an extremely complicated calculation that takes the difficulty of each question into account. Just knowing the number right & wrong, without anything about the difficulty of the questions, is strictly irrelevant to your score.
V-score and Q-score are completely independent. What you do on V has no impact on Q, or vice versa. Both of them, of course, influence the total GMAT score, on the scale 200 - 800.
Finally, just because GC says questions are 700 level doesn't necessarily mean that they are. I would recommend this blog:
