Due to corporate wide cutbacks, I was laid off from Lockheed Martin in December. I was pursuing a position within my company that would be a promotion, though the hiring manager had to push back the hiring date. Now I have an interview for next week, and I have been told I am one of two candidates
.
I know a promotion always looks good on a resume when applying to business school. However, I believe my resume is solid/sufficient, and my weakness is my GMAT score/UG GPA.
That said I just got an offer from a company (Verify Inc.,
https://www.vscnet.com/) that would be a similar function, potentially make the same if not more money, and is 15 miles from home, as opposed to a 1+hr drive (70 mi) for Lockheed. Verify works with Lockheed, and many competitors. The company is small, but does outsource work for major aerospace and some fortune 500 companies in their supplier management, and some engineering services.
I could start ASAP on the offer, or wait to see if my old company offers me the promotion. Add to that that I have a severance that I would return any "unused" portion if I return to Lockheed, though I could bank it if I took the new position.
I am a little worried on the lack of brand in the new company, only in that they are small. There is upside in that I could likely do paid overtime. The could be different every week it seems, depending on a project they get or resource need they are trying to fill. I do get the feeling there is greater leadership/project management potential, and a chance to go after work that is of my interest/skill set.
One last caveat is that I could be moving in 6 to 9 months, and the new company might have more geographic placement potential/flexibility. with Lockheed Martin, I'd have to stay 1 year before a transfer could be possible.
Advice?
