Here is a profile that's a bit different from most of the ones that I have seen:
I'm a 25 year old male, recieved a double major in Finance and Economics from Ohio University.
GPA: 3.88
GMAT: 720 (47 Q 42 V)
I currently live in Wisconsin, and have two years of work experience with a healthcare IT provider in the finance department. I also have some volunteer experiences that demonstrate leadership qualities (Chair of neighborhood steering committee - basically talking to real estate developers about how our neighborhood would like future buildings to fit into our neighborhood plan)
Would I be able to get into the Elite (HBS, Northwestern, Univ. of Chicago) programs, or do I need to either look at some other schools and/or get some more work experience?
Oh, almost forgot - money management/financial services is what I amlooking for post-graduation.
Thanks in advance - I think that I speak for everyone when I say that your advice is very highly valued in these forums.
chaser80151,
Sorry for the late reply. Your "numbers" look great. You didn't mention leadership, formal or otherwise, in your work profile so given your age I'll assume there isn't huge heaps of it, which is what would make HBS, Northwestern, and Chicago long shots for you. Basically you need to show high-impact leadership both at work and out of it. Keep in mind that there's long shot and then there's *long* shot. HBS is in the latter category, but if there's more to your profile then you gave me leadership-wise then Chicago and Kellogg may not be out of the question. Maybe also consider their part-time programs since you live nearby. One note on Kellogg: you have to meet a high bar in terms of showing involvement outside of work -- they are big on that. You are young so if you do apply and get zapped, you're be in able to use their feedback to come back even stronger the next year.
Good luck,
