Number of mistakes relative to the score [#permalink] New post 14 Dec 2012, 08:52
Hi,

I just wanted to pitch in and ask you guys something about this "questions number" problem.

I just took the Princeton free practice test and scored 600 (Q40,V33)

Quant - 27/37 correct, first 8 questions correct, then 2 wrong and then basically only once there was a series of 2 wrong questions in a row towards the end.

Verbal - 33/41 correct, two times 2 consecutive wrong answers, relatively apart from eachother.

Isnt 600 based on this somehat low? I know that the result is calculated based on difficulty and everything, but still...

Thank you for your responses,
Take care.

It is somewhat low... Q40 sounds too small of a score for 10 mistakes taking into consideration some of the GMAT Prep results I have seen but every test prep company has a diff algorithm (mostly because GMAC does not release the official algorithm).

I would probably only rely on GMAT Prep and MGMAT at this point and even with those I have seen some inconsistencies at the end.

P.S. I do agree with you having said all of that. Should be higher.

See this post for some "fun" with GMAT Prep: un-scientific-analysis-of-gmatprep-64970.html

Thank you for your reply.

I dont usually take these test seriously, I was just surprised and started to question myself.
Numbers of questions I got wrong on Quant were: 9, 10, 16 (exp), 22, 26 (exp), 28, 29, 33, 36, 37 and on Verbal: 3, 6, 7, 9 (exp), 26, 27, 34, 37.
And since I read about posts, with scores significantly higher and with more mistakes, I wasnt sure what to think about this.

Thanks anyway.

One item to consider is that your score may still be good/correct/valid but the ratio of the mistakes to the final score is off.

However, if Princeton has a larger number of medium/lower difficulty, then to keep the algorithm on par with the official test, is to reduce the number of questions that can be answered incorrectly. There are basically a few variables and biggest ones of them are Difficulty and Correct/Incorrect.

Hi everyone, i kinda have a similar question, i did one of the GMATprep tests, and got Q47, even though i had 19 mistakes out of 37? Is it ok? Aren't these too many mistakes for such a good score ?
