|

Since we should use more for comparison between two entities. A, B and C are clearly wrong.
Choice E is the correct one. It is compact and concise.
D is out for repetition of 'one'

Because we need
1) agreement between larger/smaller
2) a verb for the second clause - "is"
A. largest/small
smaller would work better
B. again largest/small
C. larger/smaller -ok, but we need a verb
D. the large/the small - awkward comparatives; the clause needs a verb
E. the larger/the smaller one + the verb "is" - > correct

"E" for me. Here the comparison is between two (twin) supernovas, hence the comparison should be comparative (more), not superlative (most).

When we talk about 2 things in a comparative form, we should say "the more" and "the smaller" as we have in this question.
As a grammer rule, we use "the" before the superlative form like "the best", "the most expensive". However, if we are making a comparison between two things we should use "the + comparative form".

I agree that "more" is redundant here as "recently" serves the same purpose as "more" when two objects are compared. However, there wasn't any choice without "more" and only containing "recently".
