On average, Machine A will produce a completed item once every three minutes, and Machine B will produce a completed item once every seven minutes. The number of items Machine A produces in a 24-hour period is approximately what percent greater than the number of items Machine B would produce in that same period?

A. 125%
B. 133%
C. 150%
D. 166%
E. 233%

total items produced = rate* time
time taken by both is same
hence change in items produced is just affected by only change in rate

(1/3 - 1/7)/(1/7)

=4/3

In 1 minute, A produces 1/3; B produces 1/7.

Together in 1 min 1/3 + 1/7 = 10/21.

10/21 - 1/7 = 1/3 -> 33.33% more

Answer should be 133%

\(\frac{4}{3} * 100 = 133%\)

The highlighted step is not required

Just compare the rates. A takes 3 minutes and B takes 7 minutes. So, A can make 2.33 times as many things as B, which is (2.33-1)*100% = 133%.

Machine A = 1 item per 3 minutes which is 7 items every 21 minutes
Machine B = 1 item per 7 minutes which is 3 items every 21 minutes

No matter what time they are saying they will produce items in the same ratio.
A produces = (7 - 3)/3 i.e. 4/3 = 133 %

If they hadn't said approximately would you still have done it by this method........21 is not a factor of 1440 minutes.

One doesn't need to go all the way till 24 hours for the entire calculation -

In same time machine A produces 7 unit and B produces 3 units, so A produces 4 units more than B...

In % terms 4/3 * 100% =>133%

Answer is (B)
