Hi,

Thanks Namita for adding elaborated valuable comments and throwing lights on the pragmatic situation out there in application process.

I believe that I have inquired a lot about what to do next , when to apply, which school may suit my profile, and whether to apply this time and from almost everywhere I have got a similar reply, that is to stay for a year or two and build your profile as much as possible by participating in various activities whether they are held outside office premises or they are held inside office premises, or by showing growth in your professional career.

Regarding my professional accomplishment, I added some points in my accomplishment table :

· Work Experience: 25 months till 31st June, 2012 in IBM India Pvt. Ltd. as an Application Developer.

· Promoted to higher band after one year of Work Experience.

· International exposure (Onsite opportunity) of 2 months to Portsmouth, UK.

These three points were related to my professional career where, I believe, I have achieved some thing more than an average person could achieve. But, as you said, there is a lot to show ad-coms your parabolic growth of work career,if not exponential growth, so as to convince them that you are the best fit for their MBA curriculum of the corresponding year .

Reason for why I am selecting 8-10 schools in a one go is if I don't get through any schools, where I will be applying, it would be tough to make myself adjust financially to re-apply next year with some other/ same list of schools. So, I guess, it would be better if I get through any of those 8-10 schools in my first attempt. I hope, I have made a reasonable statement why I am targeting 8-10 schools, why not just 4-5 or 5-7 schools.

Regards,

Saurabh

Hi Saurabh,

Thanks for your follow up post. Your achievements will get viewed relative to those of others having profiles similar to yours. In your case, you belong to a highly competitive pool of applicants where many have had great career progressions and have also got international exposure. This is just a point I am bringing across to you, but not trying to discourage you in any way.

For applying to a big list of b-schools: I would suggest that you spread yourself across a range of b-schools- 2 within reach, 2 competitive, 1-2 stretch. Think of a volume driven business as compared to a boutique firm. While both are targeting the same business, one is making profits by increasing their number of clients while the other is doing specialist work for a select number of clients and charging them a premium for it. A big number of applications will get you past your 'target numbers' but can you sustain the quality of the application across all of them? This is something you nede to think while selecting b-schools.
