A. In what labour officials and lawyers view to be a ground-breaking case that involved workers and social media, the National Labour Relations Board has accused - In correct.

B. In what labour officials and lawyers view to be a ground-breaking case involving workers and social media, the National Labour Relations Board accused - In correct.

C. Labour officials and lawyers view as a ground-breaking case that involves workers and social media, the National Labour Relations Board has accused - In correct.

D. In what labour officials and lawyers view as a ground-breaking case involving workers and social media, the National Labour Relations Board has accused

Use of correct idiom - view X as Y

Verb+ing - Modifies " The Ground Breaking Case" and presents other Nouns

E. In what labour officials and lawyers are viewing as a ground-breaking case involving workers and social media, the National Labour Relations Board is accusing - In correct.

Hence (D) fits in the best!!

1) view to be - not the best option...rest doesn't look wrong...
2) In what labour officials and lawyers view to be a ground breaking case involving workers and social media, the National Labour Board accused
verb accused is in past simple, but the first verb LO&L VIEW is in present simple...something doesn't add up...B is out.

3) Labour officials and lawyers view as a ground breaking case that involved workers and social media, the National Labour Board has accused
2 IC connected with a comma...out! moreover, the meaning is not clear...

4) In what labour officials and lawyers view as a ground breaking case involving workers and social media, the National Labour Board has accused
looks good.

5) In what labour officials and lawyers are viewing as a ground breaking case involving workers and social media, the National Labour Board is accusing
present continuous is wordy here i guess...they are not constantly viewing...NLB is not continuously accusing...

D looks good for me.

How do we decide between "has accused" and "accused"
Why is there a need for present perfect?

Simply "accused" conveys the intended meaning right?

I think that should not make any difference as both could mean different and the original sentence has "has accused" I would prefer using the same unless I find anything horrible in the sentence using it.

Since View as is the correct idiom, we don't have any choice than to use "has accused.".

In what labor officials and lawyers view to be a ground-breaking case that involved workers and social media, the National Labour Relations Board has accused a company of illegally firing an employee after she criticized her supervisor on her Facebook page.

A. In what labor officials and lawyers view to be a ground-breaking case that involved workers and social media, the National Labour Relations Board has accused --- to be regarded -the wrong idiom
B. In what labor officials and lawyers view to be a ground-breaking case involving workers and social media, the National Labour Relations Board accused --the wrong idiom

C. Labour officials and lawyers view as a ground-breaking case that involves workers and social media, the National Labour Relations Board has accused--- a blatant comma splice

D. In what labor officials and lawyers view as a ground-breaking case involving workers and social media, the National Labour Relations Board has accused --- correct choice with proper idiom and modification
.

E. In what labor officials and lawyers are viewing as a ground-breaking case involving workers and social media, the National Labour Relations Board is accusing --- use of progressive tense along with the past tense at the end of the passage is jarring.

Hey, I would like to help you with this one.

When we talk about the action of a person/animal /thing - present tense represents the habitual action and ing modifier presents something going in the timeframe of the sentence.

Eg: Sumit, a strict vegetarian, likes to yell at people eating meat ( this means that if he sees somebody eating meat, he will yell at them. )

Sumit, a strict vegetarian, likes to yell at people that eat meat. ( This is habitual action. He will yell at people who he knows to be meat eater even if they are not eating meat at that moment.)

______________

In this sentence, we are taking about the timeframe of the sentence and not habitual action. So that involved is wrong here. Though this is very subtle difference and their will always be something more concrete error than this.

If this helped you, consider kudos.
