Hi all,
I'm a current undergrad student in her junior year. I'm studying journalism with an integrated marketing communications focus. Throughout my internship experiences, I've realized that I really enjoy working with media, people, thinking creatively for campaigns (ad/pr), event planning, and the like. I also really enjoy broadcast journalism but have decided to shift from that to advertising/PR.
I've began to take some marketing and management classes at my school's business college (I think we're like top 30% of MBA programs) and I'm really enjoying it. However, it seems more "technical" and "corporate" to me. My management professor, however, suggested I take a look at B-School and maybe getting an MBA in marketing because I grasp the concepts very well and she thinks I'd fit very well in the corporate world (I don't disagree, but it wasn't my first choice).
I was just wondering if you guys had any thoughts or advice.
I really like having a creative outlet, and I'm somewhat afraid a corporate world may limit me in that sense. However, I'm really good academically and believe continuing my education wouldn't be such a bad idea. A lot of internships I have looked up require MBAs (sad story) so I'm very limited to what I can apply to as of now, too. I thought getting an MBA may also be a good option, since I think it can help me more than it can hurt me.
The only thing I wonder though... would the money be worth it, in my scenario?
The short answer is.. work for a few years and then assess whether you need the MBA degree at that point. Most MBA programs require 3+ years of work experience so it's a bit too early to decide now, but it's good that you're actively thinking about your career.
