D is not correct.

Remember that "could" is also the past tense of "can".

I mixed up two different concepts. That rule should be used for conditionals only.I mean that ones starting with "IF".

The answer must be B.

Re: SC - Cheese [#permalink]
The answer is B. Jasdeep, I had chosen E also.

Still can't find a very good reason for choosing B over E, except maybe because B emphasizes that cheese making made possible the export of dairy products, while E just mantions that this is the way they did it.

What do you guys think?

I also went for B. Mainly bcoz of its active voice as compared to E which is more passive in nature.

I think "E" has a little distort original sentence..........
E answer : "shippment" is modified by the out............................
this practice has diference with original sentence.

Re: SC - Cheese [#permalink]
hey,

C) WAS MY OPTION UNTILL I realised its wrong.
explantion,
RULE ! A MODIFIER ALWAYS FOLLOWS THE MAIN CLAUSE AND THE SUBJECT THERIN.
now we hav the first part of the snetence as the main clause, CHEESE(which I like so much)is the subject, the modifies here should follow the main clause, hence in choice B) ''THE OUT PUT OF DIARY'' is modifying the cheese and should follow it,and it rightfully does.the C)is wrong cos of this.(it starts with ''shipment'').
As in the choice E)
,the the ''shipment''is modified instead of ''cheese''!hence it goes out of way.
have fun!

Re: SC - Cheese [#permalink]
There should be two independent cluses to make sense of a semicolon. So if the answer part contains a clause that is not independent then it is not the right one.
