13 Years Experience - 34 years old - Dreaming BSchool

Hi,
I am 34 years old male. I have 13 years experience. Will I be accepted in any of the top Bschools?
What would be the requisites? I am taking the GMAT htis year but not with much preparation. I think I need to retake the examination .
But, the question is - I will be with 14 years experience and 35 years old next year.

My career is not well shaped up. I had changed from being in a BPO into IT. In IT I have 3+ years experience.

Kindly provide suggestions.

Have you considered an executive MBA program? Given your years of experience and executive program might be a better fit for you. Your classmates will all be at similar stages in their careers so you can develop a stronger network. Additionally, for executive programs there is less emphasis on GMAT and GPA and more emphasis on career accomplishments and leadership skills. I highly suggest you check them out.

Hi,

I am also at the age of 34 and have 12 years of work ex. I have an admit from a b-school and joining it in this April.
The top schools will not be "top" for you if you are away from the average class profile.
You should come up with your own ranking as per your profile and post-MBA goals.

B-schools need well rounded applications so you might get a good school if you get descent GMAT score and can portray your career transition in you essays.
You may need to take the help of a good consultant for that.

Hi Sungmat710,

Agreed that an EMBA could be worth considering however if you are set on a full time MBA, there are some schools that take more older applicants than other schools. For example Duke and Yale have older applicants, though the latter is looking for very strong test scores and GPA. IMD in Switzerland is also a school where the average age last year was 31. A lot of the European b-schools like INSEAD also accept older applicants in their mid 30s (oldest I think I know has been 39!). It really depends on your profile and they will be looking at why exactly you want an MBA at this stage in your life. Even if you have switched around a lot, they want to ensure that they will be able to help you make a change and will your profile be attractive to recruiters that come to school.
