With a 650, you can apply to the top schools depending on your background. I am working with a counselor who encouraged me to apply to Chicago with a 600 (and a 2.5 GPA). The essays are extremely important. If you can, re-take the test... but I have friends who are currently attending USC and Columbia with a GMAT score of 650 and below (and bad GPAs). If you are in the 80% GMAT range for the schools you are applying to, you will get a fair review.

Good luck! Best Wishes!

Oh, by the way... what were your breakdowns for the Kaplan scores. I am scoring in the same range as you.. with a low verbal score.

Thx Rakesh and Gmatanh. Gmatanh I can't remember my breakdown from Kaplan score but verbal must surely have been low, especially that Kaplan verbal is known to be so convoluted.

Your score is very good but I think you deserve more. In answering question in this board, your explanation has been helpful.

Sounds like the test was a bit of a goocher. I think most of your thorough verbal explanations are/were characteristic of a 700+ scorer.

But it also sounds like your score is good enough to let what you want to do.

So I wish you a hearty congratulations.

Paul, I know how you must feel. You know that 650 is a good score but you expected more. I am not an expert, but judging from other people's experiences 650 is a good enough score to apply to any school. I have a friend who just got accepted at Columbia with a 620.

Good luck with your apps.

Congratulations Paul.

As guys have posted above, I also thought that you would cross the coveted 700 mark.

I am sure you will do it the next time.
