I sincerely hope this happens to me on exam day. In the GMAT's I've taken, the answers are usually not as clear cut. Maybe it's just exam anxiety that takes over my mind.

I'll try to explain.

Look at lines 9-14

In the forests of New Brunswick, for example,
(10) various pesticides have been sprayed in the past 25 years
in efforts to control the spruce budworm, an economi-
cally significant pest. Scientists have now investigated
the effects of the spraying of matacil, one of the anti-
budworm agents
that is LEAST TOXIC to insect-pollinators.

From the passage we know:
Matacil - kills small bees & bugs, and it least toxic of various pesticides that have been sprayed in the New Brunswick forests

Other pesticides - more toxic than matacil, must kill more kinds of bees & bugs. If more bugs & bees are killed, more flowering plants are not pollinated, therefore less fruit is produced.

Hope this explanation helps.
