Just a hint to those applying. I heard from AdCom that they consider those applying in R1 as more interested in going to UNC and do keep that in mind when deciding who to accept. So R1 does have an adventage over R2 compared to most other schools.

Also, for those applying t UNC - what made you decide to apply? I was thinking of applying myself but ultimately decided that the location is not offset by rank. I did not think of the costs though...

I want to do investment management... looking at one of their example schedules for investment managment it looks very strong. Ton of classes and strong structure.

UNC - For it's strength in Consulting recruitment, Student Body, RT location and last -Weather

This is why I picked UNC

1) Strong presence of consulting companies.

2) Centre for Substantial Enterprise (this is something for my long term goal)

3) ASW (Analytical Skills Workshop)..... I love the idea that even as a career changer, I will be prepared to handle the classes from day 1

Chose to apply because of:

1. Location - Triangle is a great area, Chapel Hill is an awesome college city
2. Strong marketing concentration
3. In-state tuition
4. Personal connection - wife went there, she has made me into a Tar Heel
5. Brand name - good placement stats all over the East Coast

Interest in UNC sure picked up; 4 new threads in the last few days. Chapel Hill is truly a very nice area.

I am surprised that there was not more interest in UNC before. It is probably the strongest transelite school in finance placments and has a fine overall reputation in the eastern US.

I noticed a few replies from those interested in consulting. would anyone choose UNC over Duke , if accepted at both places?

I'm super-late to this, but thought I would throw in my two cents in case anyone is still looking at this thread.

Applying to UNC - bit of a back-up school....maybe? Who knows in the end, right? But here's what I like:

Partner is about to finish PhD in Microbiology from Cornell - Research triangle equals love.

Loved their social enterprise stuff, which is my thing. Was totally stoked to see that they listed a placement list just for the social enterprise folks: Self-Help and Shorebank, two orgs that are similar to my current one.

I also like their summer quant boot-camp

I am also leaning toward a school that teaches the basics in a more silo-styled format - I learn new stuff, especially math, better that way.

Duke just got stuck on my list last week, but I was very impressed by them - CASE (Center for Advancement of Social Enterprise) looks awesome, and I really want Loan Repayment Assistance, otherwise it will be hard with a non-profit salary.

Also liked Duke's specailized CASE career services.

Boy, i sound like a broken record - social enterprise is my chorus.

Oh, and did I mention that my entire family is composed of college basketball fanatics? They are so psyched for all of that....gee, what about my education? They're blue collar folks; they don't care. :)
