sweet -- were they new? haha..wouldnt be surprised if they asked u to return em and then gave em to the next guy =P. eww.

im not overly concerned about the noise level, but if they do allow it, i'd definitely bring it on the off chance that there is a distraction. you never know, i dont want one freak occurrence causing me to waste my 250 dollars and re-take the exam.

LOL no they were brand new, out of a sealed little plastic packet. Although this was a testing center in Australia and it also conducted all sorts of other tests (there were two other guys doing some sort of Microsoft test over there).

I took my GMAT in the US [Kansas] and they allowed ear plugs. I visited the test center in Kuwait and when I asked them whether they allow for ear plugs, they actually gave me a brand new one right away just to try it before deciding to take the test ! they were really generous. It seems like not a lot of people take the GMAT over here. The test center is also responsible for TOEFL, GRE, and a bunch of other tests.

The test center is located in the Downtown in a really nice building. I guess it's hard to imagine a downtown with nice buildings in Kuwait :). Trust me, the test center is not a large tent in the middle of the desert :-D

They don't allow you to use your own earplugs.

They provide you with some cheap types that feel like velcro. At the end of my first section, one of the earplugs got stuck inside of my ear (I always jam my earplugs in, but these cheapos are tiny and got stuck) and it took a while to get it out.

Not unless you stuff you ears with tissue paper in advance. I did this and then added the standard issue earplugs for 100% noise reduction. Seriously, the only thing I could hear was my heart beating (or rather, palpitating.)

Hi All,

To start, you are NOT allowed to bring your own noise-canceling device(s) to the Test Facility. Most facilities will offer you some option to block noise (either earplugs or earphones, but rarely both). Depending on how you trained during your practice CATs/mocks, the peripheral noise might not be an issue at all, but if you are planning to use whatever option the Test Center provides you, you should practice with that option in advance (so that you are used to it).

You are basically prohibited from bringing anything into the testing room except for what they specifically ask you to bring.

Most test sites offer you earplugs though. The best way to find out is to check out the site in advance and ask if they provide earplugs. :)

I wish I could use my Bose QC35s :(

This is how I study, probably not the best idea since I am not mimicking the test center.

You can wear earphones that cover your ears during the exam. However, the ones provided certainly are not Bose...
