ok on to the long overdue debrief
my gmat quest began in march 07
i got a date for april 27th, figured a month and a half would be time enough
so i mainly followed the following pattern
1. PR Online CAT 570
2. GMAT Prep Test #1 620
3.
OG 11th edition (did everything on it)
4. Princeton Review Remaining Tests (score ranged from 590-650)
3. Kaplan Premier Edition 2007 (All the math, and verbal questions in the book)
4. GMAT Prep Test #2 680
5. GMAT Prep Test #1 720
I felt that I was ready for the test. So the night before the test, I discovered that I had lost my passport. That was a stressful experience (wrote about it in a separate post). Sorted that stuff out somehow and somehow was allowed to take the test in Delhi, India.
GMAT TEST 1 Score: Q48, V35, TOTAL = 680
Was slightly disappointed as I knew I would retake it to try and reach my dream score of 700 or more
So getting a passport in India is the worse nightmare that one can think of. May-June-July, that's how long it took me to get my passport using the "Express Service". It was given a month after the promised date
So I got it on July 7th and decided it would be useless to take the test as my score would count for no school other than Columbia. But my friend convinced me that I should take it since this could make the difference between me getting in or not.
So I decided to study for 2 weeks and then take it as I had gone through most of the grind earlier.
Material Used for 2nd Time:
1.
OG Verbal
2.
OG Quant
3.
Error Log Questions (this is a log of all the
OG questions I got wrong from 11th edition or Verbal Review or Quant Review)
I strongly suggest that everyone maintains a log, very helpful (PM me for a sample).
So I had my test at 1:15pm. I woke up at 9am (got about 6-7 hours of sleep). Studied for 2 hours. Got ready. Ate at 12 pm as I did not want to eat too much before the test and be feeling sleepy. The test center was nearby which was a big plus, so I left my place at 12:45pm, picked up a coffee (to get myself more alert), reached on time.
The AWA part was fairly easy.
The quant was nothing out of the ordinary (I think it was MUCH harder on the first one, either that or the fact that I did not have any passport disaster helped my case)
The verbal is not my strongest point as you can see from my scores both times around. SC is probably what screwed me over (as usual).
FINAL SCORE: 700 (Q48, V38)
While it's just 20 points above my previous score, I'm happy that
a. it's an improvement
b. it's touched the psychological barrier: 700!!!!
So I think my journey ends here as I feel this score does justice to my abilities.
