Comprehensive Admit/Ding Results Discussion Thread

I talked to a kid at an event who applied to 4 schools last year and did something similar. He said he made slight changes but wasn't even sure if he answered the questions exactly right. One point that amazed me though was he said something about not really changing essay lengths. So basically if he wrote a 1500 word essay to Chicago for his why this school and goals he just changed the school name and a few details and submitted it to his why Dartmouth...even if that other school has a 500word limit for a similar question.

I was shocked, he wasn't the only reapplicant I have talked to that seems to have really screwed their own chances the first time by doing something foolish. Then again if I hadn't put much effort into researching the process I might have done something dumb too.

AdComs say that every year that have at least one applicant that writes in his something as "I like long winters with amazing world, covered by snow. I never thought, but it's true that the school in such great place has such excellent academics. That's why Harvard is my first choice."

Other than the Avg GMAT scores, the other data fits the demographics of most top B-schools. The GMAT score is really out of this world!

The next step could be a table with data who applies to which schools, to know where we can meet with each other after matriculation

I already have such a table but I dont know how to upload it here...shall try to figure out later today. But a lot of users have not entered their stuff here. It would be great if we have a comprehensive list.

Take a look at admissions411.com for the gmats there, its the same thing as on here but with a lot more data entries. Most of the top schools are averaging 740 or so on the gmat, I hope its not a sign of the overall competitiveness of this year.

If you guys dont have profiles on there you should check it out.

There are also low scores there and a lot depends on school. At Wharton, certainly, you can hardly find someone with lower than 700. I think, that, while admissions411.com is comprehensive, it doesn't cover fully people with lower scores, because they could be less willing to show out their scores. And 700+ is certainly worth to be registered to compare your progress with the others... Maybe, people with lower scores will register later.

God knows I love gmatclub.com, mbazone.com, ect ect... but it is just a small specific sample of who applies. I know lots of people applying (or applied last year) that have not gone to any of these sites..most of those people have gmats 650-690.

The ones from last year went to NYU, Yale.. ect ect. So take these sites for what they are worth :seeing how the gmat obsessed, tech savvy are doing.

I live in area where -35 can happen during the winter time. -15... -20 is a regular temperature here. I like snow a lot, I'm waiting for it to take my snowboard off the shelf and go in for a good riding early Saturday morning.

-35?!? Bloody hell, what do you guys do to keep warm...Vodka?!? Where I live, it's a pretty comfortable 20 - 25 (deg C) throughout the year. Nice weather, but no snowboarding

When people say -30 or lower, it usually includes the wind-chill factor. Maybe R.E.D included that too.
