It's Harvard - they don't just reject you. They actually send someone to your house to slap you in the face for wasting their time. Then they reject you.

Unless you've saved the world or cured cancer.

LOL! So true! :)

Just AIDS. But I think I forgot to mention that because my other accomplishments filled up the space :P

It happens. I hope you made sure to put down your experience fighting crime by night and being billionaire Bruce Wayne by day.

Questions:

1) Are people addressing the why HBS question?

2) Since HBS gives such tiny word limits, it's hard to paint much of a picture of anything. I assume that means they are judging people based on stats more so than comparable schools. My strategy has been to hammer on anything and everything I have related to leadership (a lot, actually) and basically ignore everything else that can easily be listed elsewhere -- I guess my academic accomplishments / non-leadership ECs, etc. will have to speak for themselves. Any thoughts here?

Q1) Last year I mentioned very briefly why HBS. I was asked to expand while interviewing.

Q2) The ability to summarize effectively is key. If you can keep the gist of what you wanted to say in 800 words when writing only 400 (readable!) words, you'll have very good essays. If you don't, they won't necessarily figure it out from the rest of the application.

Thanks hasmpath :-D Some of the stats I have seen in this tread are just amazing. I am not imagining anything until I hear back from them. I have some faint hope though that I will get the interview(s) at least. :)

Not as stellar stats as some of the applicants here. I am shooting for the stars.

Says the guy who got into Kellogg and Wharton :-D

I keep hearing that stats are arguably less important at HBS than at some other schools.

Lepium, could you elaborate? Do you mean HBS looks more into leadership? Thanks.

I have heard that HBS is all about leadership. The person who advised me on the application and let me see his successful essays didn't do well on the GMAT but had great leadership experience as a teacher in an inner city school.

I have a feeling that gmatclub's acceptance rate will be better than the "other" forums. Good luck to all!

I'm really having good laughs with the BW forum, the guys there - at least in that thread - are stressing out with great creative histories... we should invite them to here...

Yep... Following your advice I just had a look on the HBS forum on BW... They are really funny indeed. My favorites :

Quote:
I got my ding this morning by a guy in a gorilla costume and a Harvard Sweatshirt (XL) who slapped my coffee out of my hand as I walked to the office. Needless to say I was surprised, since I hadn't even applied...

or

My wife just gave birth to a beautiful new daughter. Her first words were...Papa Ding

Just to cheer you up ! Good luck guys !

Harvard ding. Somebody pls update my stats. I know why though. It was my first application and my worst. Anyways, the MBA process is gruesome. 5 applications n 3 dings without an interview. Brutal. Anyways, all I need is 1 n I'm close with God on my side.
