Hi!

Can anyone explain why E is incorrect?

Thanks

daspri2809, think about what (e) is saying. We are told that the warmer has caused more plants to produce more food. We are then told that this trend will not continue despite the warmer temperature. Now, back to (e), we are told that the weather made it harder to harvest. Do you see how this has no place in our argument? We would have to assume a major idea to make (e) work, and even then I doubt it would fit to justify any paradox.

I think you saw that we lost crops and jumped on it. The question says we gain, maintain, but lose our advantage. This is what you need to resolve. Why we gained but couldn’t sustain it despite nothing changing

Can we also say that option E talks only about the winter season. What if in summers the yield is too high and this yield plus low yield from winter season suffice the total yearly yield??

In this way we can discard E and choose C over E?

warrior1991, I missed that on my first pass, but yeah that too. In fact, that is probably a better reason to eliminate it, though it goes hand in hand with my explanation. Who cares about the winter? We are told drop numbers increased regardless. A perfect way to destroy the argument

nightblade354 The argument says that the yield increased in the periods of warmer periods. The argument doesn't say that yearly yield increased.
"during periods when the average daily temperature and humidity in northern Asia were slightly higher than their normal levels the yields of most crops grown there increased significantly". So why is it wrong to say that the winter yield might have reduced ?

I think in C we get that warmer temperature will lead to pests and thus reduce the harvest. This is against our argument which mentions that yield increases in warmer periods.

daspri2809, crop totals have gone up and will stay up. This is not speculation but fact. So when they say that winter numbers are affected, we do not care because our total has already taken this into account and doesn’t show us anything. This doesn’t show us how the number will go down. The warm weather could be during the winter. We just don’t know.
