Hi everybody,
First of all, I'd like to say that this site was a great idea, and I want to congratulate its founder and the guys that are keeping it alive for a job very well done.
Now, let me introduce myself: my name is Lucas, I'm 27 years old and I'm from Romania. I have five years of work experience as a software engineer. After working for about one and a half years in Romania, I moved to France to join a small startup company in the field of information retrieval over the internet. I'm still with this company, after three and a half years. It has been very exciting, I had the opportunity to do a lot of interesting stuff like R&D, Project Management, interaction with the customers, etc. I have recently decided to leave my job (as well as my stock options) and do something that would really make me happy, like work for a nonprofit organization . I'm moving to Canada in september, because in France my work permit doesn't allow me to have a paid or non-paid activity that's not related to IT. I have well-defined goals for my future, and I am more and more convinced that I need an MBA in order to accomplish them.
I'm pretty confident that I can make a strong case in my essays.
I graduated from the University of Bucharest (a respected institution in my country) with a bachelor's degree in Information Technology and a GPA of about 3.3. I first took the GMAT a month ago after three weeks of preparation and got a 680(47,36). I was a little frustated, as I think that one of the quant questions (more that that, an easy one) was unsolvable, it took me about seven or eight minutes to realize that I have to let it go. I just wasn't prepared for something like that, and it made me lose my focus for the rest of the test. Anyway, I'll sit the GMAT again next week, and hopefully get a 720+.
I'll also get good recommandations from work, as I have really made a contribution here.
I'm thinking about applying to Stanford, Yale, Kellogg, Wharton, Michigan, Duke and Marchall, and I would really appreciate if you could estimate my chances of being accepted.
Also, what would be the other top30 schools with strong NPM programs?
Thanks alot for your time!
Lucas
Lucas,
You're most welcome.
Haas comes to mind. But you may also want to visit "Beyond Grey Pinstripes: Preparing MBAs for Social Stewardship" THis report, prepared by Aspen Institute and the World Resources Institute, rates business schools on Social and Environmental concerns. That is not an exact proxy for NFP, but it should give you additional leads.
Good luck!
